New PRCA REEB research aims to capture ‘unfiltered’ experiences of Black, Asian, mixed race, and non-white men

The Public Relations and Communications Association’s (PRCA) Race and Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB) is seeking communications professionals from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds to take part in a new research study exploring the lived experiences of Black, Asian, mixed race and non-white men.

The research aims to provide an unfiltered and holistic account of the experiences of Black, Asian, mixed race and non-white practitioners in PR, along with recommendations for agencies and in-house teams.

REEB would like to hear from practitioners across all levels of seniority. Participants will be asked to take part in interviews reflecting on their experiences of working in PR. The discussions will touch on a range of issues including organisational culture, promotions and mobility, and salaries.

REEB Chair Barbara Phillips said:

"Data on the lived experiences of non-white men working in PR is scarce. The PRCA Census shows fewer than half of non-white respondents are men. Black, Asian and non-white men can face a different kind of racism and discrimination in the workplace. Industry data exists for non-white, female-identifying professionals but is absent on the lived experiences of those identifying as male. This survey seeks to change that and forms part of REEB’s broader mission of achieving immediate and long-term racial equity in PR."

Emmanuel Ofosu-Appiah, Vice Chair of REEB said:

“We are aware of the current and historical challenges facing Black, Asian and non-white professionals. We are an action orientated board we believe this research is vital in highlighting the lived experiences of those in our industry who are sometimes overlooked. We want to create meaningful change and this research project will be a step in the right direction and provide a road map for agency and in-house leaders to address issues surround inequality."

To apply to take part in the research, please email PRCA’s Senior Policy and Research Manager, Faisal Hussain with a brief summary of your career.

REEB is an inclusive Board and welcomes interest from all groups, including transgender and non-binary professionals.
