PRCA partners with EDI Guru to support inclusive cultures and psychological safety

The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) is proud to announce a partnership with EDI Guru, a new subscription service founded by Barbara Phillips, Founder of Brownstone Communications and Founding Chair of PRCA’s Race and Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB).

EDI Guru leverages AI-generated chat functionality to guide users through scenarios and solutions grounded in the Equality Act 2010 and adjacent UK laws and policies. By addressing the nine protected characteristics at work, the service aims to foster safe, inclusive, and toxic-free workplaces for all employees, regardless of their background.

The initiative provides vital support to leaders, HR teams, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and employees seeking confidential advice and education on acceptable workplace behaviours. In addition to its AI-guided workplace scenarios, the service offers free resources on key topics such as Money and Pay, Intersectionality, and Neurodiversity (coming soon).

The PRCA, through REEB and the Equity & Inclusion Advisory Board (EIAB), continues to advocate initiatives that promote inclusive cultures and psychological safety across the profession. These values highlight the association’s commitment to ethics, best practices, and global standards, ensuring the industry’s reputation as a desirable and dynamic career destination.

Founder of Brownstone Communications, Barbara Phillips FPRCA, said:

“The PRCA Census 2024 revealed that 49% of practitioners reported experiencing some form of workplace discrimination or prejudice in the past year. The most common factors cited were age (19%), gender (18%), race/ethnicity (12%), sexual orientation (7%), disability (5%), and religion or belief (4%).

“Coupled with an alarming 25.6% ethnicity pay gap, these figures show there are thousands of people enduring a truly awful time in our industry. Their careers are being stunted, and many are leaving the profession entirely. We can and must do better if we want to attract and retain the best talent and sustain the quality and creativity that make PR a desirable career choice.”

Sarah Waddington CBE, Interim CEO of PRCA, said:

“EDI Guru represents an important step forward in addressing the structural and cultural barriers that persist in our industry. Psychological safety and inclusive cultures are not just ethical imperatives, they are operational necessities that impact client relationships, employee retention, and industry reputation.

“The PRCA is proud to partner with EDI Guru to support workplaces where every individual can thrive, knowing that equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential to the future of PR and communications.”
