PRCA REEB releases latest guide to ethnicity pay gap reporting in the communications sector

The PRCA Race and Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB) today publishes ‘From Words to Change – Four Years On: Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting in the Communication Sector.’ This guide explores the current state of ethnicity pay gaps within the PR and communications industry, highlighting the persistent and pressing disparities in earnings between ethnic groups. By illustrating the impact of these gaps on individual professionals, organisational culture, and the wider industry, PRCA REEB calls for sustained action to ensure meaningful change.

In 2020, PRCA REEB published its first guide, Closing the Ethnicity Pay Gap. This new guide assesses the progress made since then. And with the UK government announcing that companies over 250 employees will need to report gaps in the future, REEB’s report serves as an essential guide to help organisations proactively close these gaps before they’re required to disclose them publicly. It includes updated practical advice for companies of all sizes committed to achieving a fair and inclusive workplace.

PRCA REEB Chair, Barbara Phillips, said:

"The Ethnicity Pay Gap is a mirror reflecting systemic inequalities that permeate not only the communications sector but the broader society. Addressing these pay disparities requires honest dialogue, thorough data, and, most importantly, action. This guide is a call for companies to commit to a fairer future—one where talent and hard work are equitably rewarded."

PRCA CEO, James Hewes, said:

"It is a moral imperative for our industry to ensure pay equity across all levels, recognising that true inclusion goes beyond rhetoric. The time for meaningful, measurable change is now. Every company in our sector must take ownership of this journey, setting a precedent for fairness and equity that resonates beyond our walls.”
