PRCA Welcomes Government Action to Improve Transparency in Lobbying

Following our campaign for all lobbying to be captured to improve transparency, the PRCA welcomes the Prime Minister's letter to Doug Chalmers OBE today, which shows that the Government are committed to strengthening transparency and accountability in our sector. This includes reviewing how ministers declare financial interests, improving transparency around lobbying, and ensuring post-employment rules remain robust and fit for purpose.

Along with our calls for a strong and credible standards framework, we have spoken publicly in favour of a review of the House of Lords' Code of Conduct. Members of the Lords should be held to the same high ethical standards as our members.

Public affairs, done properly, drives economic growth, strengthens institutions and builds lasting relationships between business and government. It deserves a strong ethical framework that applies to everyone and improves public trust in our services. The PRCA is firmly behind decisive Government action here and we stand ready to engage constructively with the Ethics and Integrity Commission as it undertakes this review.
