PRCA welcomes the formal launch of the Ethics and Integrity Commission

The launch by Government of a new Ethics and Integrity Commission (EIC) is an important step toward strengthening ethics, integrity, and transparency across public life.

PRCA Head of Public Affairs, Louise Whatham, said:

“We welcome the establishment of the Commission and encourage Doug Chalmers to approach this role with courage and conviction. The Nolan Principles remain the foundation of ethical conduct in public life, yet awareness and consistent enforcement among MPs are still lacking.

“While ethical frameworks have become more prevalent, public trust in politics continues to decline. The Commission must therefore uphold the highest standards and act decisively when those standards are breached.

“The creation of the Ethics and Integrity Commission is a significant development for standards in public life. The PRCA fully supports its mission to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across government and public affairs. We look forward to working with the Commission to ensure that high standards are applied consistently and that oversight mechanisms reflect the realities of modern lobbying and influence.”
